Preliminary investigators stated that a 2016 Ford F-150 traveling northbound in the southbound lanes collided head-on with a 2017 Ford Fusion driven by Tori Dakota Bunch of Panhandle.
Authorities said the pickup was driven by 17-year-old Elias Shane Kincanon of Amarillo. Following the violent collision, the Ford F-150 reportedly caught fire. Witnesses and Good Samaritans at the scene acted quickly, rushing to help and successfully pulling the teenage driver from the burning vehicle before emergency crews arrived.
Kincanon was transported to Northwest Texas Hospital in Amarillo with serious injuries and remains under medical care.
Despite emergency response efforts, officials confirmed that Tori Dakota Bunch was pronounced deceased at the scene due to injuries sustained in the crash. Investigators stated that both drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision, though the force of the impact caused catastrophic damage to both vehicles.
Authorities also reported that a secondary collision occurred moments later when another southbound vehicle struck the rear right quarter panel of the Ford F-150. Fortunately, no additional injuries were reported in that crash.
