According to Virginia State Police, the crash occurred at approximately 11:12 a.m. east of Mill Road. Investigators report that Shelton was traveling westbound on Dry Fork Road in a Dodge Charger when the vehicle reportedly approached a set of railroad tracks at a high rate of speed. The vehicle struck the tracks, became airborne, and subsequently left the roadway before striking an embankment.
